Oh boy, well this is an old one folks! You see, Undertown was made during the time I was
really into a SNES game called Eye of the Beholder, a great 1st person dungeon crawler. So,
I thought I could make my very own game like it, and SORTA' did- obviously not as good
(That game rules) but not too shabby for a beginner in 2001. This game was never finished,
as there are only the miniscule outside area, undertown city level, and the top two dungeon
floors completed. All the NPC's, items, stores, and other things are complete though, as
well as all of the skills and abilities for your player character.

I really learned a lot by making this game, and have used some of its principal code and
workings in many of my games made long after it. Because I owe it a bit, it's going to be
available to anyone who wants to download it to check it out. There's no "final objective"
for this one, so just have some FUN with it!

BASICS:

Start a new game by typing in your player's name and selecting whether you want a boy or a
girl to adventure with. When you're done with that, select two (one from each list) traits
that might best describe your new character. By choosing these traits, the skills you will
eventually learn are highlighted in green to the right side. Choose carefully, as some
abilities are only available to specific people who fall into exact traits!

Now select "Finished New" and you're ready to roll! Every person starts out with a Town
Bulletin, 2 Red Potions (for healing), and 1 Blue Potion (for SP recovery). Your next job
is to look around (no enemies will attack you in the forest) and enter Undertown Castle.
When you're inside, the first door to your left is the Blacksmith where you can outfit
yourself as you see fit. Good Luck!

STATS:

HP: Hit Points, or life power. If it's zero you die. Stay at an inn to recover lost HP.
SP: Skill Points. Every spell or ability to possess will most likely use some SP. If it's
too low, you can't use the ability. Stay at an inn to recover your lost SP.
HIT: Your chance of landing a melee attack on your enemy.
Evade: Your chance of dodging an incoming attack to your person.
Resist: Your defense versus spells and otherworldly effects.
Locks: The chance you'll have of picking a locked door. Locked doors can have traps!
Experience: Points awarded to you by killing monsters or finding treasures.
Next: The amount of Experience points you need to advance to the next level. You must pay
a trainer to gain the actual level, however.
Level: A general measure of how strong your character is. You start at level 1.
Red Axe: This shows your player's offensive damage output level.
Blue Shield: This shows your player's defensive absorb level.

MOVEMENT AND SUCH:

Game commands are largely accepted through clicking on the boxes down on the lower right
hand side of the screen. Move around by clicking on the walk forward / turn right and left.
Acess your stats and inventory screen by way of the Stuff button. Save your game at any
time with the Save button, drop unneeded items with the drop button, and look at your
weapon and general skills by clicking on the skills button. Curiously, the Quit button doesn't
work, so to quit, just click on the "X" at the top of the game's window like normal.

Your usable abilities are the 8 boxes located underneath your character's picture box. If
the box is greyed-out, that means you can't use the ability...YET. When faced with certain
circumstances, your usable abilities will be highlighted in green.

EQUIPMENT:

Put on gear by clicking on it's name in the "STUFF" screen. Remove the gear by clicking on
its name up in your items worn box. Some items are cursed and are greyed-out. You cannot
remove these items unless someone allows you to (like at the inn), or you drink a white
potion. Some weapons like bows require two hands so you can't wear a shield in the other.

You can wear whatever you'd like, just remember there are certain pros and cons for most
items you find or buy. If you want to be a strong spellcaster, you want to try and wear
gear that will increase your SP a lot or enhance your magical skills.

By fighting with weapons, you will gradually gain skill with them. For example, if you fight
enemies with a dagger, your general dagger skills will increase over time. Later on, you
might find yourself doing more damage with a weaker dagger-class weapon than a battle axe,
because you're much more skilled fighting with dagger-class weapons in general.

Lastly, all your equipped gear is shown on your character's picture!

HINTS:

You have to actually train in order to advance your levels. When you have enough experience
points and money to do so, you will gain basic stats like HP and SP, and most likely you'll
learn a new ability!

Stealing is a good way to get stuff for nothing- but if you're caught the store owner wil
attack you and most likely kill you outright. They may also increase their prices because
they'll hate you!

If you find any broken items and learned the "FIX" skill, you can attempt to repair the item
at the Undertown anvil. You'll need to purchase a blacksmith hammer first though.

If you find a chunk of metal ore, you can sell it to the blacksmith and she'll create some
new gear for sale for you to buy later!

Bows have a chance to attack more than once, and can fire unlimited ammo.

If you smell a dragon nearby, be sure you know what you're doing before heading in!!

Some weapons can do more damage vs one type of enemy. Remember this.

There are a few small holes in the walls in the dungeon. I wonder how you'd get in there?

IMPORTANT!!

On the 2nd dungeon level, there's a stairway headed down to level 3. There IS no level 3,
because I never finished Undertown! So, you can't go down there. Just have fun with what
is here, and don't forget that there are some hidden rooms that have..

That's it, take it easy guys (and gals) and have a good one!
